  • Timing Belt Replacement

The Timing Belt is one of the most critical yet maintenance sensitive components ever used on automotive engines. Also referred to as a ‘Gilmer Belt’, the Timing Belt allows the crankshaft to turn the camshaft, which, in turn, opens and closes the valves on your car’s engine. On free-running engines, timing belt failure will not cause engine problems other than a sudden stop and an immediate safety issue. However, on interference engines, found in most of today’s automobiles, major damage will occur if the belt breaks while driving. Timing belt breakage on interference engines will allow the valves to hit the pistons because the timing that normally keeps them apart is inactive. When this happens it will mean one of two things; a large repair bill or a whole new engine.

Most manufacturers recommend the Timing Belt be replaced between 60,000 and 80,000 miles. Mr. Tires Automotive has all the recommended replacement schedules for all the automobile manufacturers. We will be happy to review the Timing Belt situation on your vehicle and can competently repair any timing belt problems your vehicle might incur.
